Afloat at last!

We’re moored stern-to on Preveza town quay after a successful lift in!

Up at 7 and a brisk walk to get takeaway coffees. On the way I look across the launch area to Preveza where we’re heading.

The launch area 7.30am

Off the boat and ladder removed at 9.05. The trailer arrives at 9.20 and we watch anxiously as the props are removed. Then a walk behind her to the launch area.

Here 2 straps go under the boat and the hoist cradle lifts her off the trailer. At this point we quickly apply antifouling to the patches that were covered by prop pads and to the bottom of the keel. We make a bit of a mess of this in the rush and make a note to use a small roller tray next year or a brush with the tin.

She’s lowered into the water and we step on board, quickly throwing fore and aft lines ashore. Then a quick look below at all the seacocks and engine room to check for leaks.

Start the engine, instruments on and before I know it I’m steering her out of the marina. She handles superbly.

A quick play on the helm in reverse to get the feel of her. Then we fit the speed impeller, which is removed on lift out as it is easily damaged by the cradle straps. As you pull out the dummy, a water fountain shoots up until the impeller is seated. Speed and a steady hand are helpful!

John and Mary get the anchor ready and we reverse into a slot on the quay. It’s early and there’s no one around to take our lines, but 4 of us makes it easy.

After the usual playing around with lines, anchor chain and fenders, LouLouDitsi is safely moored and we put the kettle on. MnM go to drive their motorhome across to a nearby campsite. They’ll pop in for a drink this evening to check all’s well. We’re so lucky that they are so generous with their time and experience.

We’re afloat and our first summer cruise starts here. Hooray! It feels utterly amazing!
